Come rain or shine, we love being a part of Glastonbury Festival. Since 2014 we have supplied steady flames for the Park Stage and some amazing acts on the Pyramid Stage with the demand for special effects getting bigger and bigger each year (despite the mud threatening to engulf our flight cases and crew alike)!
Having previously delivered yellow rose petals for Lilly Allen in 2014, and bio-degradable confetti for Paloma Faith in 2015, 2016 heralded our biggest (and muddiest) year to date. Providing effects for three major headline acts – Foals, Muse, and Adele – our team worked tirelessly to deliver show-stopping effects to mark each of the artist’s Glastonbury moment.
For Adele this was spelled out in a 200kg hit of custom confetti that read ‘Glastonbury 4 Life,’ ‘I bloody did it,’ and ‘Hahahahaha,’ alongside an elegant Pyro Waterfall that bought her lyrics “Set fire to the rain’ to life.
For both Foals and Muse arcs of streamers and flurries of confetti were released over the crowd, whilst the latter ended their powerful set with a mighty display of pyrotechnics that towered over the Pyramid Stage.
In 2017, Quantum joined three long-standing clients on the pyramid stage – Katy Perry, Foo Fighters and Biffy Clyro.
On the Saturday evening Quantum supplied two custom confetti hits and on-stage pyrotechnics for Katy Perry, before joining Foo Fighters for their long-awaited headline set, providing a 2-minute aerial pyrotechnic display that arched over the Pyramid stage.
Biffy Clyro played the penultimate slot on Sunday night, kicking off with a flurry of blue and white streamers during the opening track ‘Wolves of Winter’ and ending with a blast of white confetti for their performance of ‘Many of Horror.’
With perfect weather all weekend and a line up of old friends, Glastonbury 2017 was a true highlight for the Quantum team.
In 2015 our in-house engineers were commissioned to develop a bio-fuel liquid flame system for the Arcadia Spectacular.
The system went live at Glastonbury 2015 where it was stationed on three towers around Arcadia’s giant mechanical spider, firing 30ft flames in to air. Eco-friendly and visually stunning, the system has helped Arcadia to shrink their carbon footprint, going on to replace the flames on the spider itself and dazzling crowds at the Bristol Green Capitol event the same year.
