Last night the annual Royal Variety Performance aired on TV. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were there on behalf of the Royal family, and Robbie Williams, Lady Gaga, and Gary Barlow were amongst those doing the entertaining. Our project manger Phil Mundy was also present, supplying a touch of SFX to the occasion.
Our first job was to add some sparks to this year’s host David Walliam’s grand entrance. Flying in on the back of a giant rocket we created the effect of the exhaust plume by supplying a gerb that fired out the end of the model. As Walliams made it safely to the stage and down the stairs we also released two jets to mark the commencement of the evening.
Our second job of the night was to supply indoor pyrotechnics for DNCE’s performance of ‘Cake By The Ocean.’ For the final section of the track we released jets and mines from the two positions either side of the stage as well as a 20 second pyro waterfall.
This is Quantum’s fourth year supplying special effects for the Royal Variety Performance and it was a pleasure to be back.
